Summary

The Biblioteca del Colegio de Misiones de Nuestra Señora de la Gracia de Popayán is a library created to support the work of missionaries in Popayán during the colonuial period. It is now held by the Centro de Investigaciones Históricas José María Arboleda Llorente at the Universidad del Cauca. It is one of the most important collections of early printed books that has been preserved in Latin America. Between 2015 and 2019, Neogranadina started digitizing this material for online publication.

Accomplishments

  • Neogranadina designed and built a custom document scanner to digitize the colonial material housed at this archive and provided training to an operator in its use.
  • We have digitized dozens of volumes from this collection, including those that are the basis of our Recopilación project.
