About Neogranadina and
The Colombian Archives Initiative
Neogranadina (Fundación Histórica Neogranadina, in full) is a non-profit foundation constituted in the Republic of Colombia that aims to implement new technologies to protect, rescue, and promote the historical artistic and cultural patrimony of Latin America. We currently focus on the digitisation of Colombia's manuscripts and early printed books. The Colombian Archives Initiative is a UK-based sister foundation that shares the same aims, but unlike Neogranadina is not yet a registered charity. More information on our twin organisations, their activities, and how to get involved can be found on this website.
Digitisation of manuscripts
and early printed books
Our technology allows us to digitise historical manuscripts and early printed books at a very low cost, while still adhering to all technical and conservation guidelines. This allows us to carry out digitisation programmes even in remote and rural areas, and always for free.
What we do
Digital Archive and Library
We are preparing a digital archive and a digital library (the Archivo Histórico Digital de los Colombianos and Biblioteca Digital Neogranadina, respectively) that use the latest technologies to make Colombian manuscripts and early printed books in private archives and libraries available to everyone around the world, for free.
We are developing a crowdsourcing project to catalogue the thousands of images we have been digitising in archives around Colombia over the past few months. For this purpose we are assembling a community of collaborators with palaeographical knowledge and experience, and it would be great to get you involved.See more...
