Cultural heritage preservation through digitization
Neogranadina’s principal project is the digitization of Colombia’s historical manuscripts and early printed books, and the creation of a digital archive and a digital library to share them with everyone around the world for free. To do this, we build scanners based on open source technologies specifically designed to digitize historical archives, and we install and maintain them in archives and libraries for free.
Since 2015, we have digitized hundreds of thousands of images in the Centro de Investigaciones Históricas “José María Arboleda Llorente” of the Universidad del Cauca in Popayán (containing two collections: the Archivo Central del Cauca and the Biblioteca del Colegio de Misiones), and in the Archivo Histórico Regional de Boyacá in Tunja. We are working to make them freely available in our digital archive.
We have also worked with the Colombian Government’s Centro Nacional de Memoria Histórica in the digitization of over 200,000 images of newspaper materials, many of which can already be accessed in their Archivo Virtual de los Derechos Humanos y Memoria Histórica.
We are always looking for new archives and libraries with which to work to safeguard the manuscripts and printed materials they hold, both in Colombia and beyond. If your institution is interested in working with us, please contact us.
